About Shaunesse'

Dr. Jacobs Plaisimond is interested in ways that personhood can inform healthcare decision-making. Dr. JP’s research takes an intersectional and interdisciplinary approach (e.g., feminist theology, bioethics, religious ethics, international human rights law) to address the multifaceted dimensions of health, most specifically person-centered health policy and clinical praxis for birthing people. Beyond academia, she is deeply committed to strengthening health rights, education, and policy.

Publications

"Moving towards Justice: Reducing Encounters of Preeclampsia in Adolescent Maternal Health" (with George Hodulik and Molly Wilde). Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice 15, no. 2 (2022).

Performs an extensive literature review of the intersection of extreme maternal age and nutrient intake as a significant factor for preeclampsia, focusing on birthing people between 10 and 19 years of age. Finds that improved access to healthcare significantly reduces preeclampsia risk, particularly for higher-income individuals.
