SSN Members Inform Colorado Prescription Drug Affordability Law

In preparation for the 2021 Colorado State legislative session, Pinky Reinsch from The Impact Project and Adam Fox, Deputy Director of the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative, reached out to SSN to identify a scholar who could use their expertise to urge state lawmakers to rein in the costs of prescription drugs for Coloradoans whose health and wellbeing depend on them.

Working with Reinsch and Fox, SSN brought in three local Colorado scholars and one expert from the broader network to co-author an op-ed which was published in The Colorado Sun. Ultimately, CCHI’s legislation to create a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (SB21-175) passed both chambers and was signed by the Governor. As implementation of the bill gets under way, Fox pointed to future engagement opportunities where local scholars could serve as board members or advisory council members supporting the board.

“Working with the Scholars Strategy Network helped us connect with professionals and academics locally and nationally to learn from their expertise and advocate for state level policy change to control prescription drug costs." -- Adam Fox, Deputy Director, Colorado Consumer Health Initiative
