No voting bloc is more important in U.S. elections than women. With women accounting for more than half of all votes, small shifts in the women’s vote can and probably will determine who wins in November. As the election approaches, Democratic and Republican candidates are all likely to make claims about why women should vote for them.

Our research shows that the Democrats have delivered increases in economic gender equality. More precisely, our study shows that when Democrats control state legislatures, women’s income, wages and unemployment all improve substantially, relative to those of men.
