The recent White House directive for science and health agencies to stop all external communication hurts Ohioans’ health.
I am a student researcher at The Ohio State University, and already the gag order has limited my ability to complete and share research findings on improving maternal health in Ohio. I received National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding in 2022 to study experiences of medical mistrust amongst Ohio women receiving prenatal care. Last week, while attending a workshop on research dissemination for non-academic audiences, I witnessed NIH scientists interrupted mid-presentation because the workshop was determined to be in violation of the gag order issued by President Donald Trump.
