School is starting but COVID is far from over for children, especially young Latino children like
Maria. Six-year-old Maria was not feeling well, her parents took her to the Emergency Room of
the local hospital. Four hours later she was on a ventilator in a pediatric intensive care unit and
both of her parents, essential workers who were feeling fine, tested positive for COVID.

The common belief that kids do not get sick and COVID is not really a problem for kids is just
false. All children are at risk and Latino children especially so.
