It seems to be the case that everywhere, a large portion of American society is being forced to bring back up to the surface the assumptive grounds on which we stand, and to elaborate on those assumptions. We find ourselves in a moment in which we are forced to “spell the quiet part out loud”; to revisit what it means to live, think, and socialize in a scientistic society; to revisit the entire ground of assumptions that we operate on on a daily basis. Reflecting on one’s foundations is in and of itself not a bad thing - though the violent, supremacist and nihilism-laden context in which it is being brought to the fore is, to say the least, less than ideal.
