About Amy
Alterman's research focuses on stand-up comedy and theatre-based abortion education and advocacy interventions. Alterman's overarching themes in writings include uses of humor for stigma reduction; gender discrimination as a barrier for health access; and performances of governmentality and reproductive governance. Alterman serves as a volunteer researcher for the UCLA Bixby Center on Population and Reproductive Health and as the founder and lead coordinator of the UCLA Graduate Student Art & Health Collaborative. Alterman additionally volunteers with the Abortion Access Front; the subject of her dissertation research project.
